History of the Company

Sanockie Zakłady Przemysłu Gumowego (Sanok Rubber Industry Plants) have been active on the market for over seventy years. The founder, owner and first director of the factories was a highly regarded specialist in rubber technology -  Oskar Schmidt from Austria who started production in Polska Spółka dla Przemysłu Gumowego S.A. under the name of SANOK in 1932.

High demand for rubber goods determined the direction of development and range of products.
As a result, the company produced goods both for the Industrial Market as well as specific market needs. Basic products encompassed transport belts, parts for rubber shoes, fire hoses, rubber wheel rims, rubber accessories, tyres, rubber parts for bicycles and gas masks.

The management of technology of Laticel sponge rubber production was one of the achievements during this period.

Sanok had exclusive rights for this kind of rubber production in Poland and in the Free City of Gdańsk. In addition, the production of barrage balloons and landing crafts pumped with air was started in 1938.

August Piccard, a famous stratosphere researcher, was interested in balloon canvas made in Sanok. It is worth remembering that professor Piccard set the world record in balloon ascents in 1932.

In the post-war period the production of technical and moulded articles , of  cords, rubber plates, V-belts and traction goods continued. An attempt to produce tennis rackets and hockey pucks was also an interesting event in the company’s history.

In the last fifteen years the company has concentrated on the development of selected product groups. At present, the main product groups comprise car body seals, anti-vibration systems for the automotive industry, window insulation and self-adhesive gaskets used in joinery and construction industry, V-belts, and rubber compounds used in industry and agriculture. Parts for the household and pharmaceutical industries also constitute a small part of the company’s activity.
