The town owes its name to the river San on which it had been erected more than 650 years ago. At present, it is a provincial town with 43 thousand inhabitants, in Podkarpacie District, in South East Poland. Great part of town, including its historical centre is on the hill on the left bank of the river. Sanockie Zakłady Przemysłu Gumowego STOMIL SANOK S.A. have got their headquarters in the San river valley on the outskirts of Sanok.
